RwandAir and Qatar Airways have in the past months made headlines with series of strategic partnerships, recently announcing an interline agreement in August and following it up by firming plans for a codeshare partnership in early October.
Well it doesn’t end there as the two carriers plan for a codeshare partnership on flights to the US with Qatar Airways requesting the US Transportation Department (DOT) to display RwandAir’s WB code on its flights between Doha and points in the US.
The latest DOT request covers all current and future US-Qatar services operated by Qatar Airways with the oneworld alliance member currently serving nonstop passenger services from Doha to 13 destinations in the US, offering a total of 111 flights per week.
Earlier in the year, RwandAir had requested approval from DOT to launch flights to New York with a one-stop route operating via Ghana. Although RwandAir holds a foreign air carrier permit to serve the US, the airline is yet to begin servicing the US route.
Qatar Airways, right now flies from Doha to Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York J F Kennedy (JFK), Philadelphia (PHL), Pittsburgh (PIT), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA) and Washington Dulles (IAD).
