Air Algérie, the national carrier of Algeria, has announced a significant expansion of its fleet with an order for five Airbus A330-900s and two A350-1000s. The new aircraft are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2025, reinforcing the airline’s long-haul capabilities and enhancing passenger comfort.
According to ch-aviation, the exact cabin configurations for the newly ordered aircraft have not been disclosed by Air Algérie. However, the A330-900s are expected to seat between 280 and 320 passengers, while the A350-1000s will accommodate between 350 and 450 passengers. This substantial capacity increase will enable Air Algérie to cater to growing demand on its existing long-haul routes, such as Beijing Capital, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo, and Montréal Trudeau, as well as expand its medium-haul network across Europe, the Middle East, and occasionally domestically.
Currently, Air Algérie operates a fleet of eight A330-200s with an average age of 14.5 years. The addition of the state-of-the-art A330-900s and A350-1000s will not only modernize the airline’s widebody fleet but also bring significant improvements in fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and operational reliability.
This Airbus order follows a previous commitment by Air Algérie for eight Boeing B737-9s, as the carrier aims to enhance its narrowbody fleet for short- to medium-haul operations. In addition to these firm orders, the airline has recently opened bids to dry-lease additional narrow- and widebody aircraft, reflecting its ambition to meet increased passenger demand and further expand its network.
The strategic fleet expansion plans by Air Algérie come at a time when the airline industry is gradually recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the introduction of the new widebody aircraft, Air Algérie aims to strengthen its position as a leading carrier in the region, provide enhanced services to its customers, and contribute to the economic growth of Algeria.
The order for Airbus A330-900s and A350-1000s represents a significant investment by Air Algérie in its long-term growth strategy. As the airline continues to evolve and adapt to changing market conditions, passengers can look forward to an enhanced travel experience with the introduction of modern and efficient aircraft in the years to come.
