Air Senegal has closed reservations for two selected African routes operating from Dakar that combines Cotonou – Douala – Libreville scheduled at 3X-weekly with Airbus A319 aircraft. The sector is no longer available for reservation from Nov.1.
In a press release published by the local press, the airline explains that this decision came following the “ poor financial performance of this triangular line since its launch in March 2021 ” – while the route had been reinforced last summer with the addition of a fifth weekly rotation.
Air Senegal has apologized to the affected passengers, who will be offered an alternative trip; they are invited to contact customer service or the nearest branch for more information
Additionally, the Senegalese national airline in a recent update filed inventory changes to its US service, where it removed the extension to Baltimore Washington- Thurgood Marshall airport as from 26 January 2023 as observed by aeroroutes while its Dakar – New York JFK sector remains available for reservation.
The airline had however announced at the beginning of September the addition of a third flight per week for the end-of-year celebrations, still operated by Airbus A330-900 which can accommodate 32 passengers in Business class, 21 in Premium, and 237 in Economy.
Air Senegal was without competition on this route inaugurated a year ago, but it faces only Delta Air Lines on the Dakar – New York axis. Recall that these transatlantic flights were announced in November 2019 as part of the launch of the “ Dakar hub ” (when South African Airways had abandoned its Johannesburg – Dakar – Washington); they initially targeted Washington-Dulles Airport, already via JFK.
