From October 31, Ethiopian Airlines plans to inaugurate flights between Addis Ababa (ADD) and Zurich-Kloten airport (ZRH) with a stopover in Milan Malpensa (MXP).
The Ethiopian national carrier already operates regular flights in Switzerland with flights to Geneva, where in 2019 it flew 25,033 passengers according to Aviacionline.
The total number of flights to Europe this Fall operated by the Star Alliance carrier will be 16.
Departures are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12:15 a.m. to arrive at 700 after a one-hour stopover in Italy, with return flights leaving Switzerland at 8:30 p.m. to land the next day at 7:05 a.m. again via Italy.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with 315 seating capacity with 30 Business Class and 285 Economy will operate this service.
At the moment, Zurich is connected to other destinations in Africa by Swiss, Edelweiss Air, Chair Air and Tunisair.
Ethiopian Airlines landed in Switzerland for the first time on June 3, 2018, with a direct service from Geneva (GVA) via Milan Malpensa (MXP) operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
According to cirium, the Ethiopian company will offer 43,646 seats per week in 146 air operations between Addis Ababa (ADD) and Europe during the upcoming winter season, being the third air operator with the largest capacity between Africa and Europe.
Its overall flight service to the Old Continent includes;
Brussels (BRU) three times a week on Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900.
Geneva (GVA) – Manchester (MAN) four times a week on Boeing 787-9.
Milan Malpensa (MXP) four times a week on Boeing 777-200LR.
Milan Malpensa (MXP) – Zurich (ZRH) three times a week on Boeing 787-9.
Rome (FCO) four times a week on Boeing 777-200LR.
Rome (FCO) – Marseille (MRS) three times a week on Boeing 777-200LR.
Athens (ATH) three times a week on Boeing 737-8. (Restarted last month).
Frankfurt (FRA) daily flights on Airbus A350-900.
Istanbul (IST) daily flights on Boeing 737-8.
London Heathrow (LHR) daily flights on Airbus A350-900.
Moscow (SVO) three times a week on Boeing 787-8.
Paris (CDG) daily flights on Airbus A350-900.
Stockholm (ARN) – Oslo (OSL) daily flights on Boeing 787-9.
Vienna, Austria (VIE) – Brussels, Belgium (BRU) four times a week on Boeing 777-200LR and 787-9.
The airline is yet to resume its flights to Madrid, Spain (MAD) and Dublin, Ireland (DUB).
Flights to Jordan
Meanwhile, Ethiopian Ethiopia filed an operational schedule for its planned service to Jordan. The carrier intends to operate Addis Ababa – Amman route on 19SEP22 at the earliest, although reservation is not available. The airline would operate 3 weekly flights, on board Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
