Air Mauritius once again deployed its wings in cape Town (since November 16 until January 2023), South Africa after a forced two year break due to the coronavirus crisis.
The Mauritius national airline sees an increase in demand on this route and will therefore operate 2X-weekly flights with the Airbus A350-900 and the Airbus A330-900 aircraft.
These two planes can accommodate 28 passengers in business class and 298 and 288 in economy class respectively.
The resumption of Air Mauritius operations in Cape Town reaffirms the strategic importance of South Africa on its network as it also operates daily flights between Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport and Johannesburg’s O.R Tambo airport.
Unlike its daily flights to Johannesburg – relaunched in January – where it competes low-cost FlySafair and South African Airways, with whom it shares its codes, its Cape Town route will have no other competitor.
Other destinations in focus
Since October 31, Air Mauritius serves Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with two flights per week. Since November 1, the company has also been providing two weekly flights to Perth, Australia.
In addition, a “code sharing” partnership with Air India started on August 17th, allowing Mauritius nationals to travel to seven other destinations in India, including Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Goa, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Calcutta.
