Kenyan LCC JamboJet will open a new aircraft base at Mombasa Airport (MBA) – located in the coastal town of Kenya – in the third quarter of 2022 in an effort to grow its domestic and regional network, according to Managing Director Karanja Ndengwa.
This will be JamboJet’s second hub in Kenya as it currently operates out of its main hub at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport.
According to the Karanja Ndengwa speaking recently to Business Daily, the Kenya Airways subsidiary has been seeking approval from Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) since last year to open up other bases in regional cities, including Mombasa and Kisumu International Airport (KIS).
In 2020, it was granted various domestic and regional traffic rights for its proposed Mombasa operations.
Ch-aviation capacities data reveals that JamboJet already holds about 23% market share at Mombasa in terms of weekly airline seat capacity, second after the 33% of parent Kenya Airways.
Airports to which JamboJet may fly from MBA include, Nairobi (JKIA), Addis Ababa (ADD), Kigali (KGL), Mumbai Int’l (BOM), Zanzibar (ZNZ), and Entebbe Airport (EBB).
