Uganda Airlines is finalizing negotiations with Air Tanzania and Precision Air to seal interline partnerships and enhance collaboration within the region
The news was revealed by the Ugandan national carrier’s country manager for Tanzania, Ms Lucy Ismail while speaking at an event to mark the airline’s second anniversary at Julius Nyerere International Airport. The event also coincided with the arrival of Uganda’s flagship Airbus A330-800NEO which is being showcased to customers across the Uganda Airlines network
The travel depression caused by the global pandemic has increased the appetite for airline collaboration as the industry grapples for survival, however Africa has largely seen interline agreements between African and Non-African Carriers with particularly gulf airlines moving to extend their reach across the continent.
The Uganda Airlines interline agreements will be good news for intra-African connectivity whose numbers for 2021 still show a need for significant improvement as airlines struggle to balance capacity with demand. In the long-term, collaboration will be one of the key drivers for both a recovery and long-term growth of the African aviation industry
Interline relationships ensure seamless travel for passengers between different airlines and ensure the efficiency and convenience of multi-itinerary passenger journeys
Uganda Airlines currently flies to 10 destinations in Africa powered by a fleet of 4 MHIRJ CRJ-900 aircraft and is now looking to build a long-haul network with a fleet of 2 brand new Airbus A330-800NEO wide-body jets
