Embraer has revised its next generation turbo prop with a new aft engine design to replace the more conventional wing mounted engines
The OEM is specifically targeting the 50 seat market which includes players such as De Havilland Canada and ATR. Embraer senior vice-president of engineering, technology and corporate strategy Luis Carlos Affonso said:
“Turboprops have lost their appeal. This turboprop will replace the current 50-seat regional jets in very important markets,”
“Our proposal here is to offer a high-tech, 70- to 90-seat turboprop with the same cross-section as the E-Jets. Very comfortable, no middle seats and spacious overhead bins,”
Embraer believes its design will reduce fuel consumption by 20% and is set to accommodate hybrid technology
The new aircraft will be ideal for markets such as Asia, Europe and Africa which have already embraced the turbo prop.
Program launch for the new design is expected in 2022 with entry into service estimated around 2027
