As the Island destination of Mauritius rolls out its phased restart of inbound tourism starting Thursday 15 July, the aviation community finds itself at the sharp end of the strict travel policy
According to local media, pilots have been told that only fully vaccinated crew will carry out commercial flight operations for the airline with that status only becoming active 14 days after the getting the second vaccine dose. Pilots who are not fully vaccinated but have taken one dose of the vaccine will be allowed to carry out commercial cargo flight operations for the airline while those who are not vaccinated face the prospect of getting unpaid leave
The first phase of Mauritius’ tourism rollout which starts this Thursday 15 July till 30 September will apply to both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers, however, unvaccinated travelers will be subject to a solitary 14 day quarantine in a hotel room upon arrival while vaccinated travelers will be subject to quarantine but in a more relaxed social environment around their hotels which includes access to amenities such as swimming pools.
Travellers will undergo a covid PCR test on arrival as well as on day 7 and 14 of their quarantine stay.
Mauritius is expecting to achieve a level of herd immunity by the end of September that will give way to more relaxed restrictions for phase 2 in the following months
