Transavia, the low-cost airline based in France, has announced a major expansion in its flight operations from France to Senegal’s capital, Dakar. The airline has experienced great success with its Dakar operation and now aims to cater to more passengers from France with its new routes.
Effective November 1, Transavia will launch new flights from Bordeaux and Toulouse to Dakar, operating twice and once a week, respectively. The new service will be operated using a 189 seater Boeing 737-800, with the Bordeaux-DSS flights on Tuesdays and Fridays, overnighting in Dakar. The Toulouse-DSS flights will operate on Sundays.
Additionally, the Lyon-DSS flights will be increased from one to three weekly flights, while the Marseille-DSS flights will maintain their two-weekly frequency.
Transavia’s expansion to Bordeaux and Toulouse is expected to stimulate demand for Senegal from these new markets. The airline has already been operating once a week flights from Lyon and Nantes to Dakar.
Transavia is now offering attractive introductory fares of Euros 118 for the new MRS-DSS route, which was launched on May 3, 2023. The flight will be operated once a week using a 189 seater Boeing 737-800.
In 2019, point-to-point demand on the MRS-DSS-MRS route was 43,000 round-trip passengers. However, in 2022, the number fell to 34,000 pax each, respectively.
Transavia’s expansion in France to Senegal is an indication of the growing demand for travel to Africa from France. The new routes provide passengers with more options, and affordable fares to its customers.
