TAAG Angola Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the first of four on order, as part of its ongoing fleet modernization strategy. The fuel-efficient widebody aircraft, leased from AerCap, arrived in Luanda just ahead of Angola’s Liberation Day celebrations. This milestone comes nearly 50 years after the airline acquired its first Boeing aircraft and introduces TAAG’s new livery while paving the way for an expanded long-haul network. The airline plans to use the Dreamliner to launch additional routes to Europe and explore new destinations in Asia and North America.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is central to TAAG’s efforts to improve operational efficiency while reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 25%. TAAG CEO Nelson Pedro Rodrigues de Oliveira described the delivery as a “pivotal step” in meeting growing market demand and replacing the airline’s ageing widebody fleet.

Currently, TAAG operates Boeing 737s and 777s on routes to 12 destinations across Africa, Europe, South America, and China. The addition of the Dreamliner will strengthen the airline’s regional and international connectivity, offering passengers a more modern and fuel-efficient travel experience.

In collaboration with Boeing, TAAG is incorporating Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into its operations, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally conscious aviation. This aligns with the global aviation industry’s push towards reducing carbon emissions and achieving greater sustainability.
