Air Senegal will relaunch its direct line between Dakar and Bamako beginning next month, eight months after the Senegalese carrier withdrew its services in Mali due to an ECOWAS embargo.

The West African trade bloc however, announced at the start of this month it has lifted economic and financial sanctions against Mali’s military led government after it vowed to hold elections in February 2024, a move welcomed by many Malians who have been staring at the global rise in fuel prices and increase food costs.

From August 2, 2022, Air Senegal will resume three flights per week between its base in Dakar-Blaise Diagne and Bamako-Modibo Keita airport, operated by Airbus A220-300 that can accommodate 8 passengers in Business class and 125 in Economy.

Departures are scheduled Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 6:00 p.m. to arrive at 7:45 p.m., return flights leaving Mali at 8:45 p.m. to land at 10:30 p.m.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic and then the political crisis, Air Senegal was in competition on this route (previously offered in A319) with Air Burkina, Air Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania Airlines, the axis also being operated by Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways.

Among the companies that have already resumed flights to Bamako are Air France or Corsair among others.

According to an Air Senegal press release, flights departing from Bamako “make it possible to connect via Dakar, all the destinations of the company’s network in Africa (Casablanca, Cotonou, Libreville, Douala, Abidjan, Nouakchott, Conakry, Bissau, Banjul, Freetown) and on the intercontinental (Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Milan, Barcelona, New York, Washington)”.

Its new general manager Alioune Badara Fall noted that “this air link will play a major role in the resumption of economic activity and trade between the two countries ”.
