Rockville Centre, NY: – UTD Aviation Solutions has announced the appointment of Captain Abiy Makonnen as Chief Commercial Officer.
Captain Abiy is an accomplished aviation professional with an extensive background in Airline startups and establishing Flight Training Organizations. He brings thirty-one years of experience in aviation and executive‐level Management to UTD
UTD Aviation Solutions brings 20 years of service to the North American and African aviation industry, supplying aircraft SPARE PARTS, MRO SERVICES and Aviation cooperative programs.
UTD is a member of the Aviation Suppliers Association and has an ASA-100/AC0056-B accreditation. Together with the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), UTD has launched a key initiative for the industry to restart and recover from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. The Brown Condor Initiative (BCI) aims to provide a platform for AFRAA members to offer consequential support in services.
It is on this background and with the focus and growth of the BCI that UTD adds Capt. Abiy to its leadership with effect from May 17, 2022. He will also join UTD Aviation Solutions Board of Directors.
Capt. Abiy also holds a degree in Aviation Technology/ Management and has accomplished studies in Advanced Project Leadership and Management at Northwood University.
He is an FAA Certified Airline Transport Pilot, Instructor, and CRM certified graduate of the US Naval Aviation School Command. He has served as a line pilot and instructor in part 135 operations and is rated on the Boeing 737. He is also a Crew Resource Management (CRM) instructor and has consulted on special Global training projects.
Capt. Abiy Makonnen comes from a long aviation tradition with his father a 41-year veteran of the Ethiopian Royal Air Force and Ethiopian Airlines. His brother has 45 years of aviation experience, with Ethiopian Airlines (20 years) and TACV Airlines (15 years) where he served as Director of Flight Operations and Chief Pilot and is currently flying as a B-777 Captain with Qatar Airways.
