A newborn baby is still alive after being abandoned in the rubbish bin of a plane’s toilet.
The shocking discovery by Airport officers in Mauritius was made on New Year’s Day on an Air Mauritius plane during a routine customs check at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius.
The baby was immediately rushed to a nearby public hospital for treatment and is said to be doing well.
The mother, a 20-year-old Malagasy woman was arrested over suspicion she had given birth to the baby boy during the flight.
After initially denying the child was hers, a medical examination later confirmed the woman had just given birth.
The woman was questioned by police after release from hospital, before being charged with abandoning a newborn.
Police say the Malagasy woman arrived in Mauritius on a two-year work permit.
