Uganda Airlines will showcase its Airbus A330-800 at the Dubai Airshow this month
The A330-800 remains a rare sight in global aviation and a tough sell with only 15 orders of the type making it the least successful product in the the Airbus widebody fleet. The manufacturer is currently working towards production of a low MTOW (maximum take-off weight) variant, with the hope of tapping into new markets with the type.
The A330NEO series was launched in 2014 with the A330-800NEO receiving its type certification in the early part of 2020. Uganda Airlines took delivery of its first of 2 in December 2020, becoming the launch customer in Africa. It remains the only operator of the type on the continent
The A330-800NEO is powered by the latest Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. According to Airbus, the NEO burns 25% less fuel per seat than previous generation competitors
The Uganda Airlines passenger cabin provides 20 full-flat business-class beds, 28 premium-economy seats and 210 economy-class seats, totaling 258 seats.
