RwandAir has further ambitions to grow its Central African regional services with Goma and Lumbumbashi in the DRC high on the hit list.

Explaining the decision to select the two new destinations, Chief Executive Yvonne Makolo revealed the expansion plans pointing out that there have been significant numbers of people travelling to the cities of Goma and Lumbumbashi.

We will provide the same quality of services that we have been providing to other routes. Kigali is a good hub to transit through for a lot of passengers, we look forward to successfully operating those routes (Goma and Lubumbashi).”

The new routes will also be an addition to RwandAir’s only flight to Kinshasa’s N’Djili International Airport which it operates three times weekly from Kigali International Airport.

Additionally, flights to Goma and lumbumbashi will also boost the trade cooperation between the two nations even as they agreed earlier in June this year to sign three cooperation agreements on the areas of promotion and protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion as well as a memorandum on gold mining.

Lubumbashi is the second-largest city and mining capital in DR Congo, it is also rich in fertile soil for agriculture which calls for many investors.

Goma is the provincial capital of the eastern DRC and is a commercial hub for the majority of businesses including cross-border trade with Rubavu district in Rwanda.

Launch dates for the new destinations are yet to be rolled out.
