Kenya Airways (KQ) is ramping up its operations and expanding services across its network to meet a significantincrease in travel demand over the summer, as entry restrictions ease for travellers.
The airline has been gradually and safely rebuilding its route network and advancing its strategy to optimize its presence in key markets to serve leisure and the growing business travel demand.
The carrier is scaling up its services to New York amid a significant increase in travel demand with 3x weekly servicesup from the once weekly flight which was previously offered by the airline.
“We have seen an increase in numbers and we have had to ramp up our frequencies to three from one previously,” said the airline.
The US route is one of the crucial destinations for the national carrier as it also plays a major role in connecting travellers who transit through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The SkyTeam Alliance member earlier this month also announced resumption of its Kilimanjaro route after suspending it last year. Flights to Kilimanjaro are now operating twice weekly with plans to increase frequency to three times per week in July. Resumption of service to this destination is also in line with the US flights as connecting passengers from America will be flown to Kilimanjaro via JKIA.
Kenya Airways will also resume operations on the Nairobi to London route from June 26 after the Kenyan government gave the green light for the carrier to restore flights on this route which was suspended in April. The state also opened its Airspace for flights between Kenya and Somalia beginning June 10.
Services to London will operate once per week with KQ hoping to increase its frequencies subject to increased demand.
“We are starting with one at the moment, but we shall add more frequencies if we realise that there is a rise in forward bookings,” said KQ director of corporate communication Dennis Kashero earlier.
