Kenya based cargo operator Astral aviation has delivered 20 tonnes of humanitarian supplies to Goma, the city whose residents were affected by the eruption of Mountain Nyirangongo in May
This is the second time Astral has come to the aid of the Congolese border city after a similar eruption back in 2002 caused a humanitarian crisis
About 245,000 people have been displaced as a result of the most recent eruption of Africa’s most active volcano
The supplies were delivered using a Boeing 727F aircraft.
Astral has been a major player in the delivery of humanitarian supplies across Africa in the past decade and has been integral to the logistical task of delivering Covid-19 vaccines to some of the poorest regions in the world. The airline was named as one of 3 African airlines to take part in the UNICEF airfreight initiative
