Ethiopian Airlines Slides into Mud off a Taxiway in Lagos

Airport officials said a plane slid off the Taxiway while trying to turn to the ramps in order to offload its cargo on Wednesday afternoon in Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

A video doing rounds on social media shows a plane, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 777-300, a previously passenger aircraft converted  to freighter, stuck in the grass after sliding off the Taxiway just after landing with airport officials and crew seen trying to frantically remove the plane from the Taxiway.

The Ethiopian Airlines aircraft was finally towed 3 hours after the incident, and after offloading its cargo, the flight returned safely to Addis Ababa.

Ethiopian Airlines confirmed that its Converted Cargo Airplane ET- 3905/04 has resumed its regular service after the incident.

A statement from the airline reads:

A converted passenger aircraft ET-ASL (B777-300) on a cargo service flight number ET 3905/02 June 2021, on the route Addis Ababa to Lagos which slightly skidded from the taxiway with one left tyre at Lagos Airport safely returned to its planned service back to Addis Ababa with out any damage. After offloading its cargo, the flight returned to Addis on its regular schedule,”
