After a Seven year hiatus, the first Libyan flight which departed from from Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport landed at Cairo International Airport on Saturday 9th October
This comes after a memorandum of understanding was signed by the Egyptian and Libyan governments to promote security of Libya’s international airports.
As part of the MOU, a protocol between the Holding Company for EgyptAir and Libya’s Afriqiyah Airways was enacted for cooperation in civil aviation security.
The protocol grants Egyptian security personnel powers to re-inspect luggage, bags and freight, and to enforce security measures
Flights from Libya to Cairo were halted in 2014 due to the security reasons and instability that resulted from the ousting of President Gaddafi
It is reported that 255 passengers were aboard the first Libyan Airlines flight to Cairo.
