As Air Belgium is being “cautiously optimistic” about its future, the carrier will add South Africa to its destination network from September 2022, with new flights connecting Brussels Airport, Johannesburg and Cape Town for the first time.

This was announced by the airline CEO, Niky Terzakis in an interview with Belga press agency.

With the new service expected to be a nonstop flight, first flight will take place beginning September 14.

From then, the Belgian carrier will fly to Cape Town every Monday and Wednesday and to Johannesburg every Sunday and Wednesday.

On Wednesdays, the flight will operate a triangular flight, with first flights to Johannesburg and then to Cape Town.

Air Belgium will deploy an Airbus A330-900(neo) on the route with space for 286 passengers in a three-class configuration, with seats currently available for sale.

This is the first time South Africa has a nonstop connection to Brussels Airport despite Air Belgium’s vast number of African destinations.

Prior to the announcement, Travellers would have to connect via Schiphol, Frankfurt, Paris or another hub.
