Uganda Airlines has officially announced the commencement of direct flights between Entebbe International Airport (EBB) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW), marking a significant milestone in the airline’s five-year history. The inaugural flight is scheduled for May 18, 2025, re-establishing a direct air link between Uganda and the United Kingdom for the first time in nearly a decade.

The new service will operate four times a week using the state-of-the-art Airbus A330-800neo, offering passengers a choice of Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class seating. Flight schedules have been optimized to facilitate seamless connections to North America, Europe, and key African destinations via Uganda Airlines’ expanding regional network.

At the announcement event in Kampala, Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki hailed the launch as a turning point for both the airline and the country. “This route marks the end of our establishment phase and sets us on the course for long-term growth and expansion,” Bamuturaki stated. “It follows meticulous planning, preparations, and many setbacks, but finally, we are there. It also gives me great pleasure that we celebrate our 5th anniversary with this milestone.”

The direct connection to London is expected to enhance business, trade, and tourism ties between Uganda and the UK. Bamuturaki emphasized that the route “connects Uganda to critical business and tourism markets in Western Europe and beyond.” She also noted that it “provides a more efficient route for exporters of fresh products to the UK, supporting the rapid growth of Ugandan exports.”

Tickets for the new Entebbe-London Gatwick route are now available for booking on Uganda Airlines’ official website, mobile app, airline booking offices, and authorized travel agents.

This development aligns with Uganda’s broader efforts to boost tourism. The country offers a diverse array of attractions, including gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, which is set to feature revamped lodges like Gorilla Forest Camp reopening in April 2025.

The launch of the Entebbe-London Gatwick route signifies Uganda Airlines’ commitment to expanding its global footprint and enhancing connectivity between Uganda and the rest of the world
