In tandem with Boeing’s announcement in October regarding TAAG’s order for four 787 Dreamliners, the airline has chosen General Electric’s GEnx engines and an additional spare to power the recently ordered Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The agreement, announced during the Dubai Airshow, is part of TAAG’s broader fleet renewal strategy, which includes four 787 Dreamliners, comprising two 787-10s and two 787-9s, as indicated by Boeing’s official backlog figures.

Comprehensive Engine Services Agreement

Beyond the engine order, TAAG is entering into a TrueChoice material services agreement with GE Aerospace. This comprehensive agreement covers the airline’s existing fleet of five GE90-powered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. GE Aerospace will provide essential support, including spare parts, component repair, and used serviceable part upgrades for TAAG’s GE90-115B engines.

Eduardo Fairen, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are pleased to continue to grow our relationship with GE Aerospace. This agreement shows our continued dedication to modernize our fleet with more efficient equipment while providing our customers with an improved flight experience.”

Kathy MacKenzie, Vice President, GE Commercial Programs for GE Aerospace, added, “These agreements demonstrate TAAG Angola Airlines’ continued confidence in GE Aerospace’s  and services. We are excited to deliver these highly-efficient and dependable GEnx engines while continuing to support the airline’s workhorse GE90 fleet.”

According to GE Aerospace, the GEnx-1B engine, powers two-thirds of the in-service 787 fleet and boasts over 50 million flight hours since its entry into service in 2011.
