EgyptAir has inked a groundbreaking deal with Air Lease Corporation (ALC) for the long-term leasing of 18 new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The agreement, announced during the Dubai Airshow 2023, is the first deal between ALC and the Egyptian flag carrier and the first 737-8 addition to the EgyptAir fleet.
These new Boeing aircraft are confirmed to deliver to the airline beginning in 2025 through 2026 from ALC’s order book with Boeing. These state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8s are poised to play a pivotal role in renewing EgyptAir’s aging single-aisle fleet. Currently, the airline operates a diverse range of aircraft, including 28 Boeing 737-800s, 12 Airbus A220-300s, 10 A320s, 7 A321neos, 7 A330-200s, 4 A330-300s, 6 Boeing 777-300ERs, and 7 Boeing 787-9s.
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, the CEO of Air Lease Corporation, highlighted the strategic significance of this collaboration, emphasizing, “As the leading airline in North Africa, EGYPTAIR will continue to stand out in the market with these 18 new generation Boeing 737-8 aircraft.” He underlined the transformative impact of replacing older aircraft with advanced and fuel-efficient models, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency and competitiveness.
Yehia Zakaria, President and CEO of Egyptair Holding, expressed the airline’s commitment to fleet modernization, environmental sustainability, and future growth plans. He stated, “This important agreement with ALC for the acquisition of 18 new Boeing 737-8s demonstrates Egyptair’s commitment to the modernization of its fleet.” Zakaria highlighted the 737-8’s potential to significantly benefit EgyptAir’s operational efficiency and enhance the passenger experience in the future.
With an average age of 18 years for its A320s, the introduction of these new aircraft represents a strategic move to ensure a more technologically advanced and competitive fleet for the airline.
