airBaltic on Monday inaugurated a new seasonal service between Riga and Marrakech, marking its first destination in Africa.

Beginning October 31, 2022, the Latvian company will offer two flights per week between its base in Riga and Marrakech-Menara airport, operated by Airbus A220-300 with 145 or 148 passengers.

Departures are scheduled for Monday at 9:35 a.m. (arrival at 2:05 p.m.) and Friday at 7:35 a.m. (arrival at 12:05 p.m.), return flights leaving Morocco on Monday at 3:00 p.m. (arrival at 9:15 p.m.) and Friday at 12:45 p.m. (arrival at 7:00 p.m., average flight time 5:30 ).

airBaltic is without competition on this route, the 50th in its network. Marrakech “is the most popular city for international travelers in Morocco. It is an excellent gateway to the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara deserts and offers many places of interest,” the airBaltic press release read.

The carriers’ chief Operations Officer Pauls Calitis “shared the company’s enthusiasm for the new route and the anticipation of continued demand throughout the winter”: ” We are delighted to be launching our first-ever regular route to Africa. Marrakech or the so-called Pearl of the South is both an exotic and warm destination and an important economic center, also for Latvia. In addition, it has a lot to offer for culture ”.

As the leading airline in the Baltics, with a fleet numbering 36 of the 50 A220-300s on order, “ we continue to expand our network, adding exciting leisure destinations also for the winter season,” the COO added.
