Air Cote d’Ivoire last week announced a planned service launch to South Africa, now scheduled in late-June 2022, as an extension of that to Kinshasa.

From 29 June 2022, the airline will operate Abidjan – Kinshasa – Johannesburg routing four times weekly, on board Airbus A320neo aircraft that can accommodate 16 passengers in Business class and 132 in Economy.

Departures are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 7:50 p.m. to arrive the next day at 5:35 a.m., after “a short stopover” in Kinshasa; return flights will leave South Africa on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 6:35 a.m. to land at 12:20 p.m., still via the DRC.

Tickets sales have been open since the beginning of this month when Air Côte d’Ivoire inaugurated its route to Bissau.

Air Côte d’Ivoire will have no competition on this route with a flight time of 7h35, as South African Airways abandoned it at the start of 2020.

According to CEO Laurent Loukou, the new route should “strengthen economic ties between South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire”.

The timing of this announcement “is strategic as we head into IATF2023” to be held in Côte d’Ivoire;

Africa is preparing to become a strong economic bloc, and Côte d’Ivoire and South Africa have a huge role to play in this growth.”

Nigeria’s AirPeace is another airline linking West Africa and South Africa with its direct flights from Lagos to Johannesburg while Ethiopian, Kenya Airways, and Rwandair are longer alternatives.
