Data from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has shown that Nigeria’s air transport market experienced an encouraging rebound in 2021
12,050,264 passengers were carried by domestic carriers in the year 2021 over a total of 74,537 flights conducted. Of these 5,977,927 were in-bound travelers and 6,072,337 outbound.
While this is still below the 17 Million recorded in 2019, it shows that the market is well on its way back.
Nigeria has one of the biggest domestic air transport markets on the African continent and the 2021 numbers come thanks to a list of 10 domestic airlines that actively flew in the year including Air peace, United Nigeria Airlines, Green Africa Airways, Aero Contractors, Arik Air, Azman Air, Dana Air, Overland, Max Air, Ibom Air
A total of 27 foreign airlines carried 1,112,884 outbound and 1,086,394 inbound passengers in 2021
Ghana based Africa World Airline led the pack of foreign airlines with 1,141 flights, carrying 42,882 inbound passengers and 47, 692 outbound passengers. Asky followed with with 884 flights, carrying 63,184 inbound passengers and 65,307 outbound passengers. Meanwhile, Africa’s largest airline, Ethiopian Airlines operated 828 flights, carrying 120,349 inbound and 97,845 outbound passengers
