Egypt and Libya Sign Airport Security Protocol as Libyan Flights Return to Cairo

A memorandum of understanding has been signed by the Egyptian and Libyan governments to promote security of Libya’s international airports.

According to local media, Libya’s Minister of Economic Affairs Salama al-Ghwail announced the signing of a protocol between the Holding Company for EgyptAir and Libya’s Afriqiyah Airways for cooperation in civil aviation security.

The protocol grants Egyptian security personnel powers to re-inspect luggage, bags and freight, and to enforce security measures

Both governments have also agreed to start direct flights from Libyan airports to Cairo starting September 30, ending a 5-year ban
